With Mike Murray away, Greg Quinn took charge of the U13A’s as they welcomed Colga FC to Drom on Saturday morning for their penultimate game of the season. A glorious sunny day and with the pitch in top condition the scene was set for a decent game of football. The Seagull boy’s had some notable absences on the starting eleven as injuries and family commitments badly depleted their panel. Despite only having twelve players available the local lads started the game in electric fashion and by half time they were four goals up and even missed a penalty which was excellently saved by the Colga keeper. At half time the local lads were forced to make a change at the back with Eric Diarra going off with a back muscle strain.
While Colga were played off the park in the first half they came out the second half with great spirit and determination and were rewarded when Evan Martin had a super strike from 25 yards which rocked to the top of the net. Shortly after, Darren Darcy bagged his hat trick with a penalty conversion but was later forced to go off with a leg injury leaving the local lads with just ten players on the pitch. As the game drew to a conclusion, Colga nipped in from a poorly cleared corner with a quick rebound shot which gave them their second goal. The scorers for Salthill Devon were Daren Darcy(3) Sean O’Connor (1) and Sean Orguba (1). This result for the local lads sees them undefeated during 2018 and gave them their tenth win of the season.
Their final game has been rescheduled for Monday evening 28th May which is away to Mervue the U13A league champions and recent runners up in the U13 SFAI Skechers National Cup. This promises to be an exciting local derby as these two teams have been the stand out squads in the local Galway league. All support for this one is gratefully appreciated…..
