The big game last weekend saw Mark Brady and Bogdan Matei’s U16 Boys cruelly knocked out of the Sketchers SFAI U16s Irish Cup when they were somehow defeated by Douglas Hall AFC of Cork. As they have done all season the boys played excellently and deserved to win the game, however, the home side along with the local officials contrived to ruin their dreams of advancing to the semi-final where they would have enjoyed a home draw. There is still plenty to play for this group as they remain in contention for 4 trophies and will also travel to Barcelona during the Easter break for a 5 day training camp. It is a long held tradition of the club that underage teams travel within Ireland and abroad to take part in tournaments and training camps, such as, this one. The club along with the tireless efforts of Brady, Matei and a handful of hard working parents have made it possible for this group to enjoy a much anticipated training camp with top quality coaching guaranteed.
The U15 Premier league team suffered a narrow 2-1 loss away to Athenry but remain in contention for the league title while Nigel Diskin’s U16s were defeated 3-2 in a thrilling league game against Mervue.
Shane Fitzgerald’s U12 girls qualified for the semi-final of the Galway Cup following a hard fought victory over a strong Colga in Clarinbridge. Emily Fitzgerald scored both goals with Kaelah Tobin assisting them while the whole squad contributed to a memorable performance.
