Last Sunday Salthill Devon and Drom hosted the inaugural HC Financial tournament for U9s. Teams from Galway, Mayo, Dublin and Clare competed for the HC Cup and Shield competitions. Despite adverse weather conditions the Drom facilities team led by Conor Byrne and his army of volunteers ensured the tournament ran smoothly and without a glitch as families and supporters were treated to a festival of football for this age group.

Salthill Devon fielded 5 teams in all and ensured top quality football was offered and provided to every player in the club at this age. The host club were joined by neighbours Knocknacarra FC, Galway Bohemians, Bearna Na Forbeacha Aontaithe along with Mervue Utd, Athenry, Tulla Utd from Clare, Westport Utd from Mayo and Dublin’s St Mochta’s FC. Salthill Devon was defeated in the final of the Shield by St Mochta’s while Westport defeated a strong St Mochta’s in the final of the Cup competition. It was a huge community day with former players refereeing throughout and club secretary and former League of Ireland referee Pat Lawless, ably supported by renowned local referee Martin Conneely,  taking over official duties for the finals.

At the presentation afterwards in the Drom clubhouse, Pat Lawless expressed his gratitude on behalf of everyone in Salthill Devon to Fionn Kiely of HC Financial Advisers for helping to make this day possible. HC Financial Advisers have provided years of unequivocal support to the club and once again showed their commitment to the development of the youth in Galway by supporting another fantastic event and help foster lasting memories for those who took part and their families. They epitomise Salthill Devon’s motto ‘Cairde tré sport’ – ‘Friendship Through Sport’.

This Saturday Drom will host the U10s HC Cup and Shield competitions and it promises to be another fantastic occasion in the clubs’ calendar so come along and watch the stars of tomorrow in action.
